Frequently Asked Questions

Gate City Pride Pocatello Rainbow Umbrella

Who are you? Why have I never heard of Gate City Pride?

We saw a gap and we got to work. Gate City Pride began March 18th of 2024 with a phone call to Idaho Falls Pride for much needed advice. We are a small group of deeply dedicated Idahoans who believe in the power of a visible all-ages celebration of our community. We have a network of many more people all doing very important things. This adds up to what we hope you will agree is an affirming, supportive, safe and fun Pride festival for the City of Pocatello.

Can I perform at Pride this year?

Part of our mission is to actively include a large range of our diverse and wonderful community. We are continuing with our tradition of a rather varied stage line-up, which includes live bands, drag queens, drag kings, a children’s magician, and of course local treasure Reading Time with the Queens. Due to the enthusiastic support from a wide range of our community, the stage gets full quickly! If we are not able to include you, please know we are so very grateful that you are excited to support your local Pride festival! Please email Pattie@gatecitypride.org to be considered in the selection process!

Who will enjoy this Pride event?

We have made a very active attempt to include as many kid-specific, youth-specific, and family-friendly (but mainly of interest to adults) booths at Pride this year. In other words, there is plenty there with you in mind. We also have free activities scattered all over, and many booths that are non-profits or resource based booths.

We have a cutely named Rainbow Tots Corner with most of our kiddo specific things right in one central location, and we built out from there. We also have the entire first hour on stage specifically for kiddos!

There’s a rumor…

Will Pride have ASL interpreters this year?

Yes! We were so very proud to have been able to pay a licensed ASL interpreter last year! We will have at least one licensed ASL interpreter freely available to you, fully paid by Gate City Pride this year!

I heard you are adding year round projects? Something about a Closet??

Yes! We are thrilled to announce that we have merged with The Closet! We have no doubt that both organizations will be stronger for it, and we will be on the lookout for anything else that so beautifully fits our goal of community building.

Check out More Pride to see all the fabulous Prides that The Closet will be attending!

We have already rolled out a few of our other plans, including a tabletop roleplaying club for 6-12 graders! You can find out more on our Programs page!

Will there be local churches represented at Pride?

Absolutely. We so appreciated the way the efforts of the multi-church booth last year. We are thrilled to include them again to further include all aspects of LGBTQ life in Idaho. Pride-approved free activities will again be at the church booths for you to enjoy and to make it clear why they are included in our Pride.

We found it inspiring to see so many faith traditions standing together and leading by example to protect our community. They will be happy to meet you just the way you are.

We will be so honored to see you at your local Pride this year. We’ve been working very hard to include important local resources, maybe some you didn’t know about.

Mental health, physical health, and community building are the things which began all of our Pride endeavors. It can be lonely and scary out there, and we hope you find connections and support at Pride this year.

We are still working on our own local resources page for this website, but we have linked to other organizations doing wonderful work in Southeast Idaho, so please check out our Resources page for links to some of them.
